Pennsylvania man loses legs in a train accident

A man from Pittsburgh was injured in a tragic train accident Wednesday, causing him to lose both legs. According to reports, the accident occurred at approximately 3: 30 in the morning as the man was apparently walking near the tracks. This accident comes as the latest in a series of train accidents in the area, including two deaths since 2007.

When emergency medical teams arrived on the scene shortly after 4: 30, they found the man lying near the tracks already missing two legs. The man was alive, but in a State of shock. Emergency teams were able to save the life of man, and he remains in hospital.

COP dies, one wounded in a tragic car accident

A right out of the official Pennsylvania State police died in a tragic car accident yesterday after driving the wrong way on the Schuylkill Expressway.

Corporal John Quigg, 48, of Wyndmoor was a State police veteran of 24 years.  Quigg was driving his car the wrong way for the exit ramp of Spring Garden and Interstate 76 about 1.  While driving westbound against trafficking eastbound, Quigg frontally crashed into the vehicle from the 23-year old Chantelle Harper.

Quigg was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.  Harper was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with multiple broken bones and other injuries.  Harper underwent surgery and was described as in good condition.

The authorities stated that Quigg was wearing a seatbelt, but was Harper.  Research is underway to determine exactly what caused Quigg enters into an exit ramp and drive against trafficking.

New procedure found to reduce brain damage in babies

Brain injury in infants most often occur due to a lack of oxygen at birth.  Brain injuries caused by lack of oxygen can be lasting life and sometimes fatal.

Recently, a new study using a blanket for cool babies who are born with the lack of oxygen proved to be successful.  In the study, a simple blanket with cold water pipes running through it is place on the head of babies born without enough oxygen.  The blanket is able to bring the baby's body temperature down to around 91 degrees in 72 hours.  In doing so, the baby's body system slows down, requiring less power and reduce the swelling on braing.  The 18-month long study showed that use the blanket possibly can prevent permanent brain damage and reduces the risk of cerbral paralysis, convulsions, and death.

This blanket would be the first form of therapy for infants with brain damage.  Currently, he is only being used in academic medical centers.

Congressional candidate in car accident

Tom Marino, Republican congressional candidate for the 10th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, was recently released from Memorial hospital after a two-car accident on Tuesday night.

Marino was driving North Towanda Township when the vehicle of Michelle j. Merschbach crossed the center line and hit the head of a pick-up truck of Marino.  Merschbach is being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.  Also suffered severe injuries, but Marino complained of dizziness after and was rushed to hospital for observation.

In a written Marino announced his plans to return to campaigning within the next few days.

White House puts money in reducing medical malpractice

The Obama administration recently made good on a promise made to Republicans in the autumn to reduce medical malpractice part of health care reform in the country.

$ 25 million in grants were approved for trying to reduce costs and medical negligence lawsuits.  The scholarships will be allocated to health services of the State, universities and medical centers for programs that aim to reduce injuries and improve physician/patient communication and reduce force lawsuits and liability insurance premiums.

In a speech by President Obama last September, said: "I don't believe malpractice reform is a silver bullet, but I've talked to enough doctors to know that defensive medicine may be contributing to unnecessary costs."

Three violent car crash injures three

A three-car accident in West Penn Township on Route 309 this Monday evening left three injured.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated, but speeding is the factor most likely according to officials.   West Penn Township Police Chief Brian Johnson stated, "we were here to do the implementation.   Is an area of 45 people think is faster because it is a four-lane highway, but is still 45.

The accident involved six people, three of which were sent via helicopter to local hospitals, two in critical condition.   When police arrived at the scene of the accident, three people were on the road, two of whom had been taken from a van involved in collision.
